How can anybody so crazy have so much talent? It's a c-r-azy talent, kid! I love your work, and although your birds make me sneeze and my eyes water just thinking about them, I do enjoy the stories. Amazing stuff, girlfriend. The only thing I can draw is flies, and then only if I haven't bathed for a couple of days. Keep it up. I want to see the next installment.

Hi Karen Jo!!!
Just got a chance to look at the Creative Corner for the first time ever and saw your name. You do beautiful work! My neice and I made Christmas trees this year for presents out of upside down tomato cages and now I wish I had taken a picture of them to post. I am still making ornaments using sequins and beads (they are kits) and plan to start more of my arts and crafts this next year. Anyways...just wanted to let you know how beautiful your artwork is.

Karen, your watercolors are so beautiful. I love the softness of watercolors and I'm envious of your talent! Mattie is such a cutie and I'm sure - very adored!

A wonderful natural talent! I am very jealous Karen Jo. I love art and can't draw a straight line with a ruler. Anyway, keep it up!

Birds make such great pets, don't they? I didn't ever have a parot but I've had several Parakeets over the years. My first one had a vocabulary of over 10 words and some phrases. The last Parakeet I had played fetch with a tiny little ball. They really do have a lot of personality. Your Rainbow Lorikeet painting is very nice and colorful.

Hello Karen, I lived with an African Gray for 2 years. Buddy was his name, and when I moved in he spoke with a mans voice. When I moved out, he spoke with a womans voice. I got to see him a year ago and now he speaks with the man's voice again, but I swear he remembered me!
I love your art. I come to Fort Worth every November and would love to meet you. We can exchange bird tales and appreciate each others art.

KJ! What a great talent you have, I am very impressed!

I am just amazed at your talent.(with painting I mean. You already know I think you are talented in so many other ways) I was truly enchanted with your work. The only thing I ever drew, that reasonably resembled what I was supposed to be painting was a grasshopper for my 6th grade science class. Other than that, stick figures are pretty much my forte.

I love your birds! Pecos is such a sweetheart and Mattie is beautiful....
I totally agree with your portrayal of laughing lilies....they get such a bum rap normally but, I think they are one of the prettiest varietys of flowers.
You keep painting girlfriend..you have a lot to say with your talent....

Karen, I love your work... and was doubly impressed when I read you use watercolors... they're not an easy medium to master.

Also love your subject matter! A friend of mine has a yellow crest cockatoo and a red lorikeet (can't remember if I spelled that correctly). Anyhow, both have large vocabularies and are they ever a pair. It is like watching a circus when they're both on a roll! The lori was purchased from a Spanish household where there was apparently a lot of swearing and domestic abuse. He cusses like a sailor... in English AND Spanish! The first time I "met" him the owner gave me a piece of peach to offer him. As I held it out for him he said, "BITCH" ...really loud! I thought... 'hey, guy, gimme a chance'... turns out that was, at the time, his standard greeting. Bird trainers told her the best way to get rid of the bad language was to ignore it, replace it with lots of "good" words, and to follow every "good" phrase with lots of praise. I dunno... seems like he was still cussing a blue streak several years later. But... he was still funny as heck. (specially when he sat on his litle perch and did his version of 'projectile pooping' as only a lori can do... yuck! He fell in "love" with a small can of varnish left on top of his play cage. It was hilarious to watch him flirt with the varnish can... he would spend absolutely hours pushing that can around.... this went on for years and years... persistent little fellow. (as far as I know he & his paint can never managed to reproduce... the can's virginity was intact as it had never been opened). The cockatoo was another clown... and so pretty... and kinda affectionate... and very active. She had a great vocabulary and was amazingly easy to teach new words/phrases, but nothing like the African Grey can learn. Given a choice I would have an African Grey.

But... I digress (however... I know it is okay with you because you just LOVE birdies!). Again... your paintings are fabulous... I don't know which I like best... the loris are beautiful, but the calla lily painting is enchanting... I've collected calla lily items for a while. (Wanna sell the painting???) I love your reference to flowers laughing... it is true, isn't it? But one tends to think of the calla with sadness and sympathy... wonder why when it is obvious (now that you've pointed it out) they are laughing their little heads off?

One of my hair cutters along the way had a gray parrot and I swear I liked her bird tales more than I liked her cuts. I thought long and hard about taking on a bird over the years, but decided it was not for me.

That is not to say I am not a fan. I met a cockatoo when we visited a friend in Melbourne Australia in 1994 that I wished I could have taken home. Mas had the most intelligent eyes. I could tell he knew everything I did about living and probably more.

I think you have a talent. Your artwork is wonderful. And I do envy your kinship with not one but two African grays. Please send me an email now and then telling me a parrot story. I don't see that hair cutter anymore!!!
