PHCentral: the difinitive internet resource for PAH information and support for Patients, Caregivers and Medical Professionals
MEDICAL: Scientific Literature

For busy medical professionals and others seeking the latest in medical journal publications, we would like to introduce you to two terrific search tools.

PubMed Central (PMC) (also known by the name MedLine), is the U.S. National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) free digital archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature. It offers sophisticated search capabilities and is available to everyone.

Another very good site is called Highwire. HighWire Press is a division of the Stanford University Libraries, which produces the online versions of high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and other scholarly content. According to the About Us write up on the site, it hosts the largest repository of free full-text life science articles in the world.

In the past, our PHC volunteers have initiated searches on these sites and then listed articles we thought would be of interest to the PAH community. But that was when the average computer user was somewhat unsophisticated and the world-wide web was new to many. The search capabilities on both PubMed and HighWire are fairly straightforward and should pose no problem to the average user. If you have difficulty or would like some help in fine-tuning your searches, please write to Kathryn, our Webmaster. She’ll be glad to assist.
